On The Silver Screen – Brandon Belt

The good thing about the rainout in Cincinnati is that we got to come back to San Francisco earlier. Nothing like landing at SFO and riding the bus back to the ballpark after a miserable road trip. Haylee was still out of town visiting family back in Texas. And Bumgarner’s wife, Ali, wasn’t back yet either. So me and Bum had a date.

We took scooters down the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building. He hasn’t gotten his scooter yet, so he rode Haylee’s little baby-blue one. He looked cute. He’s huge and the scooter is tiny. He had to hunch way over to reach the handlebars. We went to Gott’s but the line was too long. So we went to a great Mexican place on Howard – and I can’t remember the name! They’re always so nice to us. I’ll pass it along when I remember.

As usual, I saw a few movies on the road. There’s a little movie group now, so I don’t go alone as much. It’s mostly Kontos, Javy, Hunter, Crawfordand me. When you’re on the road, you can go a little stir crazy because it’s just room/baseball field, room/baseball field. So you want to just get out of your room. If we have an off day, we’ll plan what we’re going to see. Otherwise, it’s just whoever’s around when you’re thinking about going.

In Colorado on the off day, I went to see “This Is the End’’ again with Crawford and Kontos. There’s a part in there that might be the funniest movie scene ever, though it might just be funny to guys. I don’t know. I can’t really describe it tastefully. But it’s between Danny McBride and James Franco. They’re yelling back and forth at each other, and you literally start laughing at the beginning and it goes on for at least a minute and you’re laughing so hard for at least a minute straight and it hurts. I laughed so hard I could barely breathe and tears were coming down my face and I almost fell on the floor. I’ll say this: It’s about what guys sometimes do when they’re by themselves and the result of what happens when they do that. I’ll leave it at that. It is just so original. I wish I could find it on YouTube and play it on a loop all day.

That scene is right up there with a scene in “Wanderlust’’ with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Anniston. It’s the one where Paul Rudd is talking to himself in the mirror. I pretty much consider those the funniest scenes of all time.

In Cincinnati I went with Kontos and Hunter to see a film of stand-up comic Kevin Hart. And on Thursday when I got home I saw “The Heat’’ with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I think this is Melissa McCarthy’s best movie. Better than Bridesmaids. Haylee got home Friday before our game, and she wasn’t real happy when I picked her up at the airport and told her that I went to see it without her — even though she had told me it was okay. I think she was just grumpy about leaving her family and so it probably wasn’t the best time to tell her I had seen the movie. She’s fine now.

It was great to see Bum pitch so well yesterday and get us the win. Obviously we really needed it. It’s not like we were in this dungeon of doom and we were never going to get out of it. But it’s not been very fun the last few weeks. There’s no doubt in this clubhouse, though, that we can win the World Series with this team. You realize you’re going to have times when you’re not playing well. Everything usually averages out — as bad as this is, we plan on having a run where we’re just as good on the other side.

When you see a light at the end of the tunnel, like we did with our win yesterday, then things start to click. You don’t know who it’s going to be to get it going. Last year, somebody different stepped up every day. Yesterday it was Bum.

Who’s it going to be today?

Thanks for reading!

Glad to see you in the game. We need your defense. It’ll get better. we’re rooting for you! Since I am an old lady, I won’t begin to guess what was so funny in the movie. It’s good that Haylee is fine! Go you guys!

I’m female and saw the movie with my husband. I thought that scene was hilarious, too. I had two big Diet Cokes at lunch before we went to the movie, and let’s just say I’m glad nothing embarrassing happened when I laughed so hard.

Your description also had me and my husband laughing so much we were both wiping tears away. Maybe you have a future in comedy screenwriting after baseball.

Per Google Maps (http://goo.gl/maps/AS7r4), the Mexican restaurants closest to Howard Street would be Chevys Fresh Mex or Taqueria Reina’s. Was it one of those?

Too funny. I love Melissa. I want to see that movie, but haven’t got the chance yet hopefully I can see it. She’s always pretty funny. Well, people have been telling me (who aren’t Giants fans) have you been seeing the Giants lose lately, I said yeah but, have you seen them trying lately and never giving up? It’s kinda ridiculous when people get cocky. I hate it, I go to school with them every day, it’s a nightmare. Anyway, that win with the Bum, was majical you know? It’s shows our San Francisco Giants have never gaven up and never will stop fighting. We did see the light at the other side of the tunnel. & LIfe isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

Your Biggest Fan, Sierra

Yay you posted! That’s so cute that you and Madison had a date! Are there other bromances in the clubhouse?

Just keep your heads up. You guys WILL get back on your feet. There’s not reason to be upset, you’re still right there in the NL West. It’s not like you have fallen to dead last with no hope. There’s still half the season left. Use it and play with heart. Good luck against the Mets! I’ll be cheering!! From my couch about 6 hours away but still! Love all you guys! Make me proud!

Love reading your blog! Win or lose, still love watching the game! Go Giants!

And now I want to see This is the End even though that part sounds kinda weird, for a girl anyways.

While you guys didn’t win today, you put up one really good fight and like you said, things usually even out and I think yesterday and today were signs of that. It’s difficult to watch a lot of losses, but it’s even more difficult to play. I’m glad to hear that you guys do other stuff than just focus on baseball all the time. I thought that ‘This is the End’ was freaking hilarious. I was reading your description and I wanted to see it again, so I looked it up and found it on youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tHyRqhmoNI in case you want the link. I also saw ‘The Heat’, too. I’ve got to say the watermelon scene and the ‘snowcone’ scene were really funny. I probably wouldn’t take Haylee to see ‘This is the End’, but who knows, maybe she’d find it just as funny. Like I asked Crawford yesterday, don’t you guys get noticed when you’re out in the city? Especially in SF? or do people generally leave you guys be?

I walked out after the movie “21 Jump Street” thinking it was the funniest movie ever. I can’t wait to see “This Is The End” and “The Heat,” too, from what you guys are saying about it. “This Is The End” sounds hysterical. And what a great combo – Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock in “The Heat.” Someone’s a genius. ‘Great to hear your and B. Crawford’s attitude, and hear it’s the general attitude in the clubhouse, that things will turn around. We’re all here behind you guys and just know it’s a matter of time, too. As I mentioned on B. Crawford’s post, 2010 wasn’t so smooth at the beginning and it ended great! We’ve been on the edge of our seats for so many of your comebacks, we not going anywhere now! :) Good luck and we’ll be watching!

Your strikeout in the 11th inning just happened… that 3-2 pitch was up and in but you had a good swing. Looks like you just missed and it was a couple inches more over the plate it might have been a walk-off.
Don’t get down on yourself about slumping. At this point, if you spread out your season stats over 648 plate appearances (if you play 162 games and have 4 plate appearances each game, that’s what you get), you have 20 home runs and over 75 RBI’s. And taking days off, being benched sometimes against lefties (who you hit over 300 off of), and being sick at the beginning of the year hurts your already existing numbers, so if you factor that in you get about 22 home runs and 80 RBI’s, which is totally a good season. The talent is already there, it just has to unfold over a full year. And if you improve in the time being that is frosting on the cake.

Another thing to add: playing at ATT park has definitely taken away a few homers from you compared to other players who play in more hitter friendly yards.

Hey Brandon and Brandon,
So I don’t know if you guys read the comments you get but I just wanted to say, you guys are doing great. Even if you lose I’m still rooting you on. Every time you play I watch your games and cheer for you guys. It’s usually one of the highlights of my day. :) Thanks for giving me something to look forward to every day. You guys are champions and I can’t wait to watch you win in the coming games. Love you guys!
Good Luck!
Your fan,
Allison

I have seen Great games and great players but these last three years have been the very best! Thanks to ALL of you!
A fan forever! Vera

I really enjoyed this blog. It was hilarious. I could totally picture “Big Country” on a tiny blue scooter cruisin down Embarcadero. Love it! Damn, you watch a lot of movies! That’s awesome. I watched The Heat a few days ago with my sisters. It was hilarious. I loved Bridesmaids but I might have to agree with you, she was hysterically funny in her recent movie. I haven’t watched that other movie you mentioned but I’m tempered to watch it to see exactly how funny it is haha I’ve been in Tahoe this past week so unfortunately couldn’t watch your games :( but I know you guys will get out of this rut. Maybe go for a 3 in a row? ;) I’m still a die-hard Giants fan so I support and love you guys 100% win or lose. Look forward to being back home in the Bay tomorrow to watch your games again :)

Well the light got a lot brighter yesterday! Congrats on your awesomeness at bat. I had my fingers crossed for you and you came through big time.

Love your blog. This is the only one I read. I have got to watch “This is the END”. I want to laugh! I’m be waiting in McCovey Cove for your next Splash HIT!

Hey Brandon! Just wanted to say I really enjoy your blog– very personable and funny. If you need a second career later in life, may I suggest some sort of writing or comedy? : ) This has been a rough year, but that’s life– up and down. Stress can bring out the worst in people, but you guys always seem to be kind, considerate and play as a team. Thanks for being here in the Bay!

Brandon, I heard from Bertha that you and Haylee liked the photo I gave you. Your best seasons are still in front of you. Glad you are on the team! See you at the park.

Brandon B, You are the absolute best. I hope you never gain a filter. You have been a doll since Boch called you up, crying. What a sweet, sweet person…& funny as all getout! Jaime

I know I’m a little late (I just discovered this blog today!), but I found the youtube clip of the scene from “This is the End”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ2BXqST758
Hope it helps to keep you laughing! I’ve been a HUGE fan of both you and Crawford from the start so I definitely look forward to reading your posts from here on out. I hope you keep them coming in the offseason, I don’t know what I’m going to do without my daily dose of Giants baseball!
A Baby Giraffe fan till the end,
Teresa
